PFAS Treatment Project Scheduled to Start October 19, 2026
RIDGEFIELD, Conn. – October 1, 2026 – Aquarion Water Authority continues to perform essential work on water infrastructure in Ridgefield, which is necessary to ensure continued system reliability and water quality. On October 19, Aquarion will begin construction at its seasonal wellfield treatment facility located at 9 Norrans Ridge Drive. The work includes the installation of two new filter vessels containing granulated activated carbon media to remove per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the well water before it enters the water distribution system. The project is intended to ensure that drinking water treated at these facilities complies with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s National Primary Drinking Water Regulation for six PFAS that was announced on April 10, 2024. The project is expected to be completed by Spring 2027.
“We greatly appreciate residents’ patience as we complete this important project,” said Mike Hiltz, Aquarion’s Manager of Project Delivery, Engineering and Planning. “We will work closely with our customers, neighbors, contractors, and town officials to coordinate the work and minimize any disruptions during construction.”
Working hours will be 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Portland-based Snyder Construction will serve as the general contractor for the treatment project. The construction project is expected to have little to no impact on traffic in the area. Access to the local walking trail will be maintained throughout construction.
